Overview
This video introduces Topology Optimization through a Volume Minimization example, focusing on reducing material usage while satisfying the required structural performance criteria.
Topology Optimization Workflow :
• Volume Minimization Setup
The analysis focuses on Volume Minimization, which reduces material usage while maintaining the required performance. Four load cases and boundary conditions are defined to represent the actual loading conditions of the structure.
• Displacement Constraint & Optimization
A displacement constraint limits the maximum displacement at a specific location to 0.05 mm. The optimization identifies a shape with minimum material usage while satisfying the required conditions across multiple load cases.
• Load Path & Optimized Shape Review
The material density distribution reveals the primary load paths and regions that can be removed. The optimized shape can also be exported as an STL file for subsequent CAD work.
The video demonstrates how Volume Minimization can identify an efficient structural shape under multiple loading conditions and connect the optimization result to subsequent CAD design work.
