NFX STR

[Online] NFX STR_Linear Contact Analysis

Overview

This video compares Welded Contact and Bidirectional Sliding Contact to explain how different contact conditions affect load transfer and stress distribution in structural analysis.

Contact Condition Analysis Workflow :

• Contact Condition Definition
Welded Contact restricts both separation and sliding between contact surfaces, while Bidirectional Sliding Contact prevents separation but allows sliding along the interface.

• Hitch Assembly Comparison
Using a Hitch Assembly model, both contact conditions are applied under the same boundary and load conditions to compare their effects on structural behavior.

• Stress Distribution Analysis
With the Welded condition, stress is distributed relatively uniformly through the connected surfaces. With Bidirectional Sliding Contact, relative sliding between components results in stress concentration around the bolt hole region.

The video demonstrates why contact conditions should be selected according to the actual connection and relative motion between components to represent realistic structural behavior.
