[Online] NFX CFD_ESS Air Cooling Analysis | Fan Boundary Condition

Overview

This tutorial demonstrates how to perform an ESS (Energy Storage System) Air Cooling Analysis using the Fan Boundary Condition in midas NFX CFD. It explains how to represent fan performance with a fan performance curve and evaluate airflow and temperature distributions in an ESS battery pack.

ESS Air Cooling Analysis Workflow:

• Solid and Fluid Domain Preparation
Create the solid and fluid domains of the ESS model and assign material properties to the batteries and air.

• CFD Mesh Generation
Generate a computational mesh for the battery components and surrounding fluid region to analyze airflow and heat transfer.

• Fan Boundary Condition Setup
Apply a fan performance curve to represent the fan’s pressure–flow relationship. This approach reduces modeling complexity and computational cost by removing the need to model rotating fan blades directly.

• Solver Configuration and Monitoring
Configure the CFD solver settings and monitoring options to track the progress and convergence of the cooling analysis.

• Airflow and Temperature Evaluation
Review pressure, velocity, streamlines, and temperature distributions to understand airflow through the battery pack and assess its cooling performance.

The video provides a practical CFD workflow for engineers, students, and beginners learning how to use fan boundary conditions for ESS battery cooling and thermal management analysis
